Oops, I did it again

Last Sunday I bought another used Apple device, a MacBook Pro 15“ with Retina from early 2013, again from eBay. As I already wrote before, those devices are idiot-proof because they were used before for quite some time. In this case my choice led me to a device with some known issues - I bought it despite of them. The guy who sold it was a very nice student who allowed me to carry the device home to test some of my setups with it - thanks for that, René!

The main issue is the so called mura defect. This is when the LCD shows white (or sometimes black) spots.  My display has more than just spots but complete areas in the lower left corner up to the upper left bit of the screen. The interesting thing is that those are only visible when having something „light“ on the screen. It looks perfectly with dark content or even black background. There are some DIY solutions for it but I guess someday I will have that fixed by a pro from the Apple Store. As long as it doesn’t get any worse I can live with that.

The second thing is the internal audio device not working at all. No sound, no mic. This is also something I can live with as I run this computer on an external audio interface for music production via USB - so what?

You may think: why the hell he’s buying that kind of shit? Because I got it for half the price you normally have to pay even for a used MBP from that year.

Now my collection of Macs is complete (I’ll skip the useless MacMini).

Some other specs from this one:

Intel Core i7, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, Nvidia graphics.

From what I can tell this machine is the fastest Mac I now own and even the display has the named issues it’s marvelous, sharp and bright.

Lars, I paid 670 EUR for this device - competitive offers range from 1100 to 1400 EUR in Germany's second hand market.
